About this event
This is an annual autumn festival held every year on the second Sunday of October at Ao Shrine. The main highlight of this festival is the dedication of "Yudate Kagura," a traditional form of sacred Shinto dance and ritual. A cauldron is placed before the altar, where water is brought to a boil. Miko (shrine maidens) and Shinto priests perform a ritual dance to music while dipping bamboo grass leaves into the boiling water and shaking them, showering the scalding water over themselves and scattering it around the cauldron. It is said that being splashed with this water will grant good health and protection from illness throughout the year, making it a sacred ceremony to pray for the well-being and peace of the local community.
