About this event
Settsu City designates July and August as "Peace Months" and hosts various events related to peace. Please join as an opportunity to pass down memories of war and learn what we can do for the future. Each person's desire to "know" and "think" is a big step toward peace. The "Peace Exhibition" showcases actual wartime artifacts such as military boots and comfort bags. In addition, the "Peace Panel Exhibition" displays "Atomic Bombs and Humanity," "Children's Peace Posters," and "Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Posters," providing an opportunity to reflect deeply on peace. The "Citizens' Gathering to Reflect on Peace" features Kosuzu Harada, granddaughter of Tsutomu Yamaguchi (a double atomic bomb survivor), as a guest lecturer for a talk titled "Above and Below the Mushroom Cloud." Prior to the lecture, there will also be a reading of the peace-themed picture book "The Paper Crane That Crossed the Sea." Registration is required for this gathering. In addition, a moment of silent prayer for peace will be held at 9:15 AM on Thursday, August 6, with cooperation encouraged across public facilities in the city, businesses, households, and local communities. A corner for contributing peace prayer origami cranes and peace messages will also be set up. These events are organized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Settsu Liaison Council and Settsu City. Admission is free, but advance registration is required for the "Citizens' Gathering to Reflect on Peace." Requests for temporary childcare are also accepted.
