About this event
The "Hassaku Festival" (Hassakusai) is one of the representative events of Nose Myokenzan with a 400-year history. Originating from "Tanomi no Sekku" (the festival of offering early rice ears to benefactors), it shifted into an event "asking" (tanomu) Myoken Bodhisattva for bountiful harvests, and eventually was elevated into a time of prayer wishing for people's "spiritual abundance." In modern times faced with dizzying changes and difficulties, this is a special time to deeply cultivate the soil of the mind and awaken "spiritual vitality" from within. Just as blessed rain pours onto dry earth and vigorous life begins to sprout, this special time may become a cornerstone for welcoming resilient strength and fruitful days. Hassaku festival prayers will be held from 9:00 to 15:00 at the Main Hall (Kaiunden), where "Hassaku Tanomi Amulets" will also be bestowed. The lucky mochi toss will take place from 11:30 in front of the Josuido, and will be cancelled in case of rain. Following that, special prayer rituals (Horaku Kaji) will be held in front of the altar on the 2nd floor of Hokushinkaku (temple office), and rakugo storytelling can also be enjoyed as a dedicatory performance.
