6th Special Exhibition: Ancient Burial Mounds of Amagasaki
Japanese name:第6回特別展「尼崎の古墳」
📅 Thu, Oct 1, 2026 - Sun, Nov 29, 2026
About this event
During the Kofun period, numerous burial mounds (kofun) were built in Amagasaki, including the Mizudo Kofun, from which triangular-rimmed divine beast mirrors (sankakubuchi shinjukyo) were unearthed, and the Sonoda Otsukayama Kofun, where many pieces of horse tack were unearthed. However, many of them were lost with the urbanization of the city area, and there are almost no opportunities to view the burial mounds that boasted majestic appearances in those days. Therefore, this special exhibition introduces the kofun lost to development as well as those discovered through recent excavation surveys based on the latest research findings. In addition, archaeological materials unearthed from kofun in other regions will also be displayed to explore the true picture of Amagasaki's ancient burial mounds that once existed in Amagasaki. The exhibition will also feature displays themed on Amagasaki's stone sarcophagi.
