About this event
Held in Izushi-cho, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, the "Izushi Castle Festival" is a traditional festival representative of the castle town Izushi. This festival is said to have originated when the lord of the Izushi Domain returned home accompanied by Edo Akasaka Yakko servants during the alternate attendance (Sankin-kotai). The highlight of the festival is the sight of the "Children's Feudal Lord Procession" and "Adult Feudal Lord Procession" parading through the town. In particular, the masterful technique of spear twirling in the Adult Feudal Lord Procession is breathtaking, performed along with distinctive chants. Visitors can also enjoy experiences such as spear twirling and on-the-spot sales of local agricultural produce. On festival day, the entire town is wrapped in a festive mood and shows lively bustle throughout the day. It is an event full of history and vitality that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
