About this event
At the Ako Hachimangu Autumn Festival, lion dances that adorn the Hachimangu shrine are performed. Among the autumn festivals honoring the guardian deities of the Asano clan and the southern Ako region, this festival is known as a pioneer of the sacred shinko-shiki procession. It is famous for the tohito figures who lead the way purifying the path to the otabisho resting place before the portable shrine, as well as the lion dance designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Hyogo Prefecture. In particular, the dance where two sleeping wild lions (male and female) awake to the beat of drums and proceed under the guidance of a tengu, purifying and warding off evil spirits, serves as the grandest highlight of the festival.
