About this event
Counted as one of the Setouchi Three Great Boat Festivals and designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, the 'Sakoshi Boat Festival' is a heroic festival boasting a history of over 300 years. Lion dances and mikoshi (portable shrines) parade through the town, and the spectacle of more than a dozen traditional Japanese boats crossing the sea is breathtaking. In particular, the mystical scenery after sunset, when lanterns are lit and each boat makes its return voyage, enchants all visitors.
