About this event
Held in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, the "Terauchi Zanzaka Dance" is a traditional drum dance dedicated to praying for the prosperity of descendants and bountiful crops. Also known as a "rainmaking ritual," 12 dancers dressed as monkeys—messengers of Sanno—form a circle and beat drums attached to their waists in time with the musical accompaniment of "Zanzaka Zatto." In the center of the dance, two dancers carry decorated 3-meter-tall bamboo poles called "shinai" on their backs, dedicating the dance while intertwining them and striking them against the ground. Designated as a Hyogo Prefecture Intangible Folk Cultural Property, this dance offers a valuable opportunity to deeply experience local traditional culture.
