Awaji Art Circus 2026 "The Revived World of 'Journey to the West': A Phantasmagoric Journey to the Far West"

Inspired by the classical Chinese novel "Journey to the West," the international entertainment show "The Revived World of 'Journey to the West': A Phantasmagoric Journey to the Far West" will be held on Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. Sixteen world-class artists from 10 countries, including Japan, will gather to present a diverse array of performances such as roller skating, acrobatic ladder stunts, aerial silk, contortion, baton twirling, ballet, and an illusion show. The grand adventure story of "Journey to the West"—overcoming numerous monsters and hardships while growing alongside companions—will be expressed as a contemporary entertainment show combining animation production, physical performance, and live music. A thrilling stage performance will unfold, including stunts without lifelines on top of a 4-meter-high wooden ladder and aerial acrobatics. In addition, visiting performances at elementary and junior high schools on Awaji Island are planned, creating opportunities for children to experience diverse performances and traditional arts, and to deepen international understanding through interaction with artists.
