Japanese name:秘仏・十一面観音立像特別御開扉/大安寺 秋季特別拝観
📅 Thu, Oct 1, 2026 - Mon, Nov 30, 2026
About this event
The hidden Buddhist image of the Standing Eleven-Headed Kannon, enshrined in the center of the main hall as the principal image of Daian-ji Temple, will be specially unveiled. This standing statue of the Eleven-Headed Kannon was created in the Tenpyo era, is designated as a National Important Cultural Property, and is also revered as a Buddha that protects against cancer. Bearing eleven faces on the head, the compassionate facial expression of Kannon observing the joys and sorrows of all living beings and sharing tears and joy with them is represented. The posture of holding a treasure vase in the left hand and making the wish-granting mudra (Varada mudra) with the right hand illustrates Kannon's function of extinguishing all suffering of sentient beings. It is a rare opportunity, publicly shown only during a limited period in October and November each year.
