About this event
Hosted by the Arida Regional Exchange Council, whose secretariat is located within the Regional Development Division of the Wakayama Prefecture Arida Promotion Bureau, the 'Kumano Kodo (Kiiji) Walk & Mandarin Orange Picking Experience' will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2026. In this event, under the guidance of a storyteller, participants can walk an approximately 8.5 km course while learning the history of the Kumano Kodo (Kiiji) trail and enjoy picking seasonal mandarin oranges. The course from JR Yuasa Station to JR Kii-Miyahara Station visits Dōmachi-dōri, the Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and along the Yamada River, offering encounters with the history of the Kumano Kodo and local historical sites. Specifically, participants capable of completing the approximately 8.5 km course including steep slopes are eligible, aimed at raising awareness among a wide range of generations about the 'Arida and Shimotsu Region Stone-Wall Terraced Citrus Orchard System,' certified as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS). The participation fee is 1,500 yen, which includes lunch and the mandarin orange picking experience. In the event of severe weather, it will be postponed to Sunday, November 29.
