Hattomaki Pass, located in Hidakagawa Town, Hidaka District, Wakayama Prefecture, is situated between Mount Shirama and Mount Gomadan, surrounded by mountains exceeding 1,000 meters in elevation. During the autumn foliage season, the entire pass turns vibrant red, captivating visitors. This area also retains legends of Heike fugitives settling here, offering a sense of historical depth. With nearby hot springs and forest parks, you can enjoy strolls while taking in nature. The peak viewing time for autumn foliage is typically from late October to early November, though it may vary depending on weather conditions. Admission is free, and it can be visited 24 hours a day. Access is about 2 hours by car from the Hanwa Expressway Arida IC.
