About this event
A traditional festival in which a procession of people dressed in Edo-period mountain garments and a graceful four-person lion dance (shishimai) designated as a prefectural intangible cultural asset travel approximately 800 meters to the Otabisho (temporary resting place). Held at Sambagawa Shrine, which was founded in 1204 by Sambagawa Tomoharu, traditional and ancient ritual ceremonies are performed. It is also known for the strict rule that performers and general worshippers alike must not be under the influence of alcohol during the ceremonies. The sight of lions, demons (oni), and crocodiles/wani dancing will enchant visiting spectators.
