About this event
Information on the peak viewing time for autumn foliage at Chogen-ji Temple in Wakasa Town, Tottori Prefecture. Nestled on a hill by the shore of Lake Onzui, Chogen-ji is a prayer temple that began in the Heian period when Lord Ujisuke, son of Seii Taishogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, enshrined Kanzeon Bosatsu and Benzaiten to pray for the prosperity of worshippers and the blessings of water in the Ibo River basin. The 'Taiko Stone,' where Toyotomi Hideyoshi is said to have stopped and taken off his shoes during his conquest of Tottori Castle, also remains. In autumn, the temple grounds are beautifully colored with autumn leaves, which can be enjoyed alongside the scenery of the shores of Lake Onzui. Viewing of the temple grounds and main hall is free and open to all.
