Kagura and Swordsmith Festival 2026

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the "Kagura and Swordsmith Festival 2026" will be held at Roadside Station Onan no Sato (Michi-no-Eki Onan no Sato) in Onan Town, Shimane Prefecture. This event is packed with local charm, allowing visitors to experience Iwami's two proud traditional cultures—kagura performance art and Japanese swordsmithing—all at once. The venue will host a powerful kagura performance by the Dewa Kagura Troupe, as well as a special exhibition and talk show by master swordsmith Sadanao Mikami, who was involved in the reproduction of the "Spear of Longinus" from Evangelion. In addition, visitors can try on kagura costumes, take commemorative photos holding kagura masks, and participate in a swordsmithing workshop (planned). For foodies, the "Meat Eating Meetup" will gather proud local meats such as Iwami Wagyu beef and Iwami pork, alongside sweet treats sold by Onan Cheese Workshop and NPO Sakuranbo no Ouchi. A special highlight is the exclusive pre-sale of the first installment in the "Iwami no Megumi Series": Iwami Wagyu and Burdock Simmered Delicacy. A wellness nail-art experience and handmade craft sales by the Kyoso Mirai members are also offered for a wide variety of fun. Admission is free.
