About this event

'Uraja', one of the largest summer festivals in Okayama Prefecture, originated from the Momotaro legend depicting the battle between 'Kibitsuhiko-no-Mikoto' (regarded as the model for Momotaro) and 'Ura' (an ogre/demon) passed down in Okayama since ancient times, and is a historic festival held since 1994. Held every August in Okayama City, it records over 500,000 spectators. In 2026, under the theme of 'Kagayaki' (Radiance), it will take place on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23. Venues span a wide variety of locations, including Okayama Performing Arts Theatre Harenowa, Shimoishii Park, Shimodacho Park, AEON Mall Okayama 1st floor Mirai Square, Sanyo Shimbun Santa Plaza, and Mori no Machi Grace. The event features dance performances at dance venues, parades along Haremachi-dori, Omotecho Shopping Street, and Shiyakusho-suji, and a grand finale So-odori dance on Shiyakusho-suji on the night of August 23. Admission is free. A Family Festa will also be held concurrently, where visitors can enjoy character shows, festival fair stalls, and more.
