Yugasan Fire-Walking Grand Festival
Japanese name:由加山火渡り大祭
📅 Tue, Nov 3, 2026
About this event
Historically known as the "Double Pilgrimage of Yuga and Konpira," this festival is held once a year when the sacred fires of both shrines are united. The "Fire-Walking Ascetic Ritual" is grandly conducted, where the large Goma fire altar is ignited, prayer sticks (gomagi) are cast in, and participants walk barefoot across the smoldering embers to pray for good health and ward off illness. General visitors can also view and take part in the fire-walking. On the day, Kojima Yuga Taiko drumming and the Shito Dai-Goma prayer ritual (boiling water purification blessing) will also take place.
