Setouchi Industrial Art Festival 2026

About this event

A decentralized art festival will be held to enjoy diverse industries rooted in the Setouchi region—such as shipbuilding, stone quarrying, steel, and salt fields—from a fresh perspective through the power of art. Factories and plants are repurposed as 'art museums,' where artists depict the essence of industry through unique expressions, creating a special experience to connect with manufacturing technologies, wisdom, and human activities. Companies participating in this festival include Naikai Salt Industries Co., Ltd., Mikuni Kogyo Co., Ltd., Tombow Co., Ltd., Kojima Jeans Street, Ohno Associates Inc., Fuji Clean Co., Ltd., and PowerX, Inc., while artists including Ryue Nishizawa, Shingo Masuda + Katsuhisa Otsubo, Sako Yamada, MANTLE (Shu Isaka + Soshi Nakamura), SYMBOL PLUS, Motoi Yamamoto, Yuki Takeda, Naoyuki Miura, Mirai Tanaka, Bank-to LLC, and SAI will present works. Supervisors and advisors include Kazuyo Sejima, Yuko Hasegawa, Yusuke Okura, Atsuhiro Miyake, and Masaki Satake. Official bus tours touring industrial art sites are also available, offering day tours departing from and arriving at Okayama Station, as well as plans bundled with Shinkansen and accommodation for participants traveling from afar. In addition, individual tickets per venue can be purchased for those who wish to explore at their own pace. All exhibits require advance reservations, so booking a tour or individual ticket is necessary.
