About this event
Setouchi Industrial Art Festival 2026 is a new decentralized art festival set in Okayama and Ehime Prefectures, using operating factories and industrial facilities as its venues. Held from Saturday, October 3 to Saturday, October 31, 2026, diverse industrial sites such as salt manufacturing, school uniforms, denim, shipbuilding-related industries, storage batteries, and resource recycling will become stages for art. Artists will reinterpret the flow of time at each site, accumulated technologies, and the lives of working people to create and display site-specific artworks. A major appeal is that industrial workplaces usually not open to the public are opened through art, allowing the entire region to be enjoyed as a single 'decentralized museum.' Architect Kazuyo Sejima, curator Yuko Hasegawa, and others participate as supervisors and advisors, creating a new experience where industry and art intersect. This art festival is an endeavor to rediscover the value of the manufacturing industry that has supported Japan's economy from an artistic perspective and open it to both inside and outside the region, aiming to serve as an entry point for a wide range of people, including younger generations, to encounter local industries.
