Ushimado Autumn Festival

Japanese name:牛窓秋祭り

📅 Sun, Oct 25, 2026

📍 Setouchi, Okayama

About this event

This is the autumn ritual of the local tutelary shrine, Ushimado Shrine (Hachimangu). Following a purification ritual before the procession, the portable shrine (mikoshi) departs from Hachimangu and visits 21 temporary shrine sites (otabisho) established throughout the town. In districts with danjiri floats, shagiri musical performances are dedicated while awaiting the arrival of the portable shrine. Upon the mikoshi's arrival, five danjiri floats shaped like dragon heads or boats parade vigorously through the town to the rhythm of drum music. In the Kounoura district, the Karako Dance will be dedicated starting at 14:00 at Eki Shrine and three other locations. Held annually on the fourth Sunday of October, this festival fills the entire Ushimado district with festive energy.
