Known as a traditional festival in Takehara, the Isomiya Hachiman Shrine Autumn Grand Festival is an important event offering gratitude to the deities for an abundant harvest. The highlight of the festival is the procession through the town by diverse performers including futon-daiko (cushioned drum floats), kijin (demons), tengu (long-nosed goblins), red and blue ogres, and lion dance heads. The sight of people parading in these traditional costumes conveys the vitality and culture deeply rooted in the region. Both an eve festival and the main festival are held, livening up the festival atmosphere.
