The 92nd Fude Matsuri (Brush Festival)

Held every year on Autumn Equinox Day in Kumano Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, "Fude Matsuri" (Brush Festival), the largest event in the capital of brushes, Kumano Town, will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 (public holiday). This festival is a major annual event to offer gratitude to nature that provides brushes and to all people involved in the culture of using brushes. At the venue, visitors can enjoy a variety of brush-related events, including the "Fude no Ichi" (Brush Market) where various brushes are sold at special one-day-only bargain prices, and "Daisaku Sekisho" where calligraphers paint large-scale masterpieces in one go. Food trucks are also scheduled to open, and a section of the junior high school ground will be revived as a stage, creating excitement throughout the venue. It is an opportunity to fully experience the unique culture and charm of Kumano Town, the capital of brushes.
