Held every year on November 3 at Hojoji Temple in Kudamatsu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the "Fox Wedding (Inaho Festival)" is a unique festival associated with the legend of the white fox. A bride and groom wearing fox masks ride in a rickshaw, followed by relatives and attendants dressed in formal montsuki hakama attire, parading along the old highway to JR Suo-Hanaoka Station. There is a tradition that the young woman chosen to play the bride will be blessed with a good marriage, drawing large crowds every year. Celebrating abundant grain harvests and giving thanks for the fruitful autumn, this festival is beloved as a representative traditional event of Kudamatsu City. With kindergarteners' parades, portable shrine rituals, dances, and mochi-tossing (rice cake throwing), the entire community enlivens the festival. In particular, the sight of the fox bride and groom advancing slowly in their rickshaw is mystical and captivates spectators.
