The "57th Nishiki River Water Festival Month" will be held around Kintai Bridge in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, from August 1 to August 31, 2026. This festival aims to give thanks for the abundant blessings of the Nishiki River, starting with the Water Thanksgiving Ceremony and featuring a variety of events such as Iwakuni Taiko drumming and matchlock gun troop demonstrations. During the period on select dates and times, a mini fireworks display will be held on the dry riverbed beneath Kintai Bridge, lighting up the night sky with 75 fireworks over approximately 2 minutes. The festival is also held in conjunction with the summer tradition of "Kintaikyo Ukai" (cormorant fishing), featuring events such as Ukai Yukata Day and Ukai Night. The Water Thanksgiving Ceremony is held at Nishikigawa Mizu Shrine, which was established in 1974 to express gratitude for the blessings of the Nishiki River and pray for the development of Iwakuni. The event offers an opportunity to experience the nature of the Nishiki River and local traditional culture.
