About this event

Held in conjunction with the Hikanaga Hachimangu Autumn Festival in Murozumi, Hikari City, the 'Murozumi Autumn Festival Exhibition' will take place at the Hikari Furusato Kyodokan Local Museum. In this exhibition, happi coats, gohei wands, red lanterns, and other items associated with the Hikanaga Hachimangu Autumn Festival will be displayed. The Hikanaga Hachimangu Autumn Festival is a historic festival that began in the first year of the Kanbun era (1661) in the early Edo period. It is characterized by the heroic spectacle of young men in matching happi coats and white loincloths pulling floats (dashi) and dance stages (odori-yama) while chanting 'Enya! Enya!' and singing the regionally rich 'Kiyari-uta' work songs. The 10 floats and 1 dance stage were designated as Tangible Folk Cultural Properties of Hikari City in 1981 (Showa 56) and are known as valuable items that preserve the festival's original form. The exhibition presents displays conveying the charm of this traditional festival. On the day of the festival, there is also the special benefit of free admission to the Hikari Furusato Kyodokan Local Museum.
