About this event
"Shiraoi Poroto Mintar Festival 2026" is a two-day summer event held in Shiraoi Town. In 2026, the Tanabata decoration event "Wish Upon a Star" and the Gourmet Fes have merged into an upgraded festival. At the Poroto Mintar venue, giant Sendai-style Tanabata decorations will appear, vibrantly adorning the grounds. Tanzaku wish-strip making workshops, a children's fair, and photo spots will also be set up. On Saturday, August 29, under "Wish Upon a Star", visitors can enjoy Sendai Tanabata decorations, Tanabata illuminations, and Ainu culture & craft workshops. On the following day, Sunday, August 30, under "Gourmet Fes", Shiraoi's local foods will gather, offering the Shiraoi Gourmet Championship as well as popular sweets and drinks. Craft workshops and Ainu cultural experiences can still be enjoyed. It is a summer festival for the whole family, from children to adults.
