About this event
"Shunan Gourmet Koshien 2026," a cooking contest for elementary, junior high, and high school students living or attending school in Shunan City, Kudamatsu City, and Hikari City, will be held for the first time at the Shunan City Tokuyama Health Center. This event aims to provide students with an opportunity to learn about local specialty products and regional resources, promote the charm of the region through menus they have devised themselves, and foster affection and pride for the local area. Teams of 4 to 5 members devise an original menu using local ingredients, cook at the venue on the day of the contest, and present their thoughts and connection to the region. In the judging, not only taste, but also the cooking process, presentation content, and ease of preparation at home are evaluated. Judges include the chairpersons of the restaurant and beverage associations of Shunan, Kudamatsu, and Hikari, as well as Shunan-born influencer and talent "Ma-chan." On the day, public viewing is welcome, and tastings of the participating teams' dishes will be prepared. The grand prize-winning dish and others are scheduled to be offered as limited-time menus at local restaurants for 1 month. The top 4 teams will be presented with gift certificates: equivalent to 50,000 yen for the Grand Prize, 30,000 yen for the Semi-Grand Prize, 20,000 yen for 3rd place, and 10,000 yen for 4th place. Through this event, the experience of students discovering regional charm through cooking and cooperating with teammates to create a menu is expected to lead to a deeper affection for the region.
