About this event
As part of the "Matsushige Puppet Theater Festival 2026" held in Matsushige Town, Tokushima Prefecture, "Date Musume Koi no Higanoko: Hinomi Yagura no Dan" (The Love of the Greengrocer's Daughter: The Watchtower Scene) will be performed. This event is an opportunity to savor the charm of Ningyo Joruri (traditional puppet theater), featuring puppet troupes, chanter rooms (tayu-beya), and puppet theater groups from within and outside the town. In particular, "Date Musume Koi no Higanoko: Hinomi Yagura no Dan" presented by the Tomowaka-kai features Shizu Nagano as chanter (tayu), Tomowaka Takemoto on the shamisen, and Fureai-za handling the puppetry. The venue is the Matsushige Town Historical Folk Museum, with doors opening at 10:45 AM and the performance running from 11:00 AM for about 30 minutes. Capacity is set to 50 people. Various other puppet plays and Awa Ningyo Joruri theater performances can also be enjoyed at this festival.
