About this event
This festival is tied to the tragic story of Lady Ruri, the wife of the lord of Takinojo Castle, which fell under the fierce assault of the Chosokabe forces in the late Sengoku period. On the day of the festival, a memorial service is held following a children's procession (chigo gyoretsu), and a flower portable shrine (hana-mikoshi) is dropped from the top of the Shiradaki's largest waterfall, the Female Waterfall (Medaki), into the waterfall basin to console the spirit of Princess Ruri. Afterward, local performing arts such as traditional dances and bountiful harvest dances are performed. Held at Shiradaki Park, it has good access, being a 10-minute walk from JR Iyo-Shirataki Station. This festival is a valuable opportunity to pass on local history and tradition, offering inspiration and peace of mind to visitors.
