Autumn Festivals (Various Town Districts)

In Kamijima Town, Ehime Prefecture, autumn festivals take place almost every week across various districts when October arrives. Traditional festivals unfold in various areas throughout the island, such as Uoshima, Kushira, Habu, Sashima, Ikina, Iwagi, Kamiyuge, Sawazu, Shimoyuge, and Hikino/Myojin. Children beating danjiri drums and adults carrying mikoshi (portable shrines) and danjiri illustrate generations coming together to enliven the celebrations. Each district holds festivities highlighting its own unique traditions, such as Sashima's heroic ritual of carrying portable shrines into the sea, lion dances in Iwagi and Kamiyuge, and the Yakko procession in Shimoyuge. While they were previously held in September and October, they are now concentrated in October, and as soon as October begins, the entire island comes alive with festival excitement.
