Japanese name:滑床渓谷の紅葉
📅 Tue, Oct 20, 2026 - Fri, Nov 20, 2026
About this event
Located in Matsuno Town, Ehime Prefecture, Nametoko Gorge is part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park and is one of the leading grand gorges in Ehime Prefecture, stretching 12 km along the uppermost reaches of the Meguro River, a tributary of the Shimanto River. Characterized by smooth granite riverbeds created by erosion, beautiful scenes of clear streams flowing over vast expanses of bedrock known as "Senjojiki" and "Deainame" spread across the area. Every year, many tourists visit during the fresh green and autumn foliage seasons. In the autumn leaves season in particular, the trees in the gorge gradually change color, allowing visitors to enjoy vibrant foliage. "Yukiwa Falls," which flows down the slope of a colossal single monolith, is the symbol of Nametoko Gorge and has been selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls." In summer, it is also bustling as a canyoning spot, and mountain stream fishing for red-spotted masu trout (amago) and Japanese dace (ugui) can be enjoyed. With well-maintained campsites, it is a location where visitors can fully appreciate nature.
