About this event

The "45th Shihoro 7,000 People Festival," held in Shihoro Town, Tokachi, Hokkaido, is a participatory summer festival that deepens interaction between the local community and visitors, named after Shihoro Town's population of 7,000 at the time of its initial event in 1979. The main festival will be held on Sunday, August 16, from 10:30 to around 16:00, proceeding in light rain and taking place at the General Training Center in the event of heavy rain. In addition, a costume Bon Odori dance is scheduled from 18:00 on Thursday, August 20. The highlight of the festival is the parade of flower mikoshi (portable shrines) decorated with cherry blossom motifs made of bamboo poles and Mino washi paper, a specialty of sister city Mino City in Gifu Prefecture. At the venue, food stalls offering Shihoro Town specialties and stalls for children will line up, and stage shows and costume Bon Odori dances will also be held, enlivening Shihoro's summer.
