Omusubi World Record Challenge 2026

About this event

This event in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture, aims to challenge the Guinness World Record for the 'Longest line of rice balls' by lining up 3,000 rice balls in a single row. The current world record stands at 153.59 meters and 2,527 rice balls, but this event aims for a new record of approximately 182 meters and over 3,000 rice balls. Participants will make and provide rice balls using carefully selected Japanese domestic rice including Itoshima-grown rice and umeboshi (pickled plum), each becoming part of the world's longest line. The event provides a commemorative kit that includes rice ball ingredients, a commemorative kit, event insurance, and a commemorative photo. The venue is the Main Arena of the Itoshima City Sports Park, an indoor venue unaffected by the weather. The day includes reception, opening ceremony, making and placing rice balls, measuring, result announcement, and commemorative photography, followed by the enjoyment of Itoshima gourmet cuisine. Volunteer recruitment is also underway to help support event operations. This challenge not only seeks to achieve a world record, but also aims to connect the culture of cherishing rice and bonds between people to the future.
