About this event
This festival, designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukuoka Prefecture, is held annually from mid-September to the first week of October. It is said to be one of the Three Great Yamakasa Festivals of Kyushu and is famous as the "Kenka Yamakasa" (clashing festival floats) where the floats collide fiercely with one another. As the Yamakasa festival for Uhara Shrine's Shinkosai, it is also known as a rare festival where the floats change their appearance three times during the event: "Hiyama" decorated with lanterns, "Noboriyama" decorated with raised banners, and "Iwayama" adorned with doll figurines set against a rock backdrop. You can participate in this spectacular festival by paying attention to the colorful 15-meter-tall floats and the happi coats of each district. In 2026, it will be held from September 20 to October 4: Ganeoroshi on September 20, Hiyama in each district on September 26, Hiyama in front of Kanda Station on September 27 and 29, Noboriyama in each district on October 3, and Iwayama in front of Kanda Station and in each district on October 4.
