Japanese name:佐賀県重要無形民俗文化財 -米多浮立- 奉納
📅 Sat, Oct 24, 2026 - Sun, Oct 25, 2026
About this event
Meta Furyu is a type of Tensho-mai dance passed down since the Edo period in the Meta district of Kamimine Town, and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Saga Prefecture. Dedicated once every two years during the autumn festival of Oimatsu Shrine (the last Saturday and Sunday of October), it is performed to pray for bountiful harvests and good health. Dancers wear unique headdresses about 3 meters tall called "Tenko" on their heads and dance heroically with intense whole-body movements. Although it temporarily ceased during World War II, it was revived after the war, and a preservation society was established. While it was scheduled to take place in 2025, it was cancelled, and the next dedication has been scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026, at Meta Oimatsu Shrine. It is an important festival that conveys regional traditions to the present day, attracting visitors with the power of its dance and historical value.
