About this event
This is an elegant traditional autumn festival with 300 years of history, handed down in Miyaki Town, Saga Prefecture. It is the largest event of the Hojoe (animal-releasing ceremony) held at Chiriku Hachimangu Shrine, dedicated as a prayer for bountiful crops. The sight of people dressed in traditional costumes dancing gracefully to the sounds of gongs, flutes, and taiko drums is magnificent. The procession includes elements such as Shya-no-ke (yak-hair spear ornamentation) and lion dances, unfolding as a daimyo-style feudal procession of nearly 100 people. This traditional festival heralding the arrival of autumn is an important annual event for the local community.
