About this event

As an autumn festival celebrating the bountiful harvest of the Nakabaru district in Miyaki Town, a furyu dance is dedicated every year on the Autumnal Equinox Day to pray for and celebrate a good harvest. The procession of the Teppo Yari corps by elementary school students and the Sha-no-ke (rhinoceros hair plume) corps by young men parading along the approximately 1 km route from the Lower Shrine (Geku) to Ayabe Hachiman Shrine to the sound of gongs and drums is truly magnificent. Many stalls line the festival approach, bustling with spectators and worshipers. In particular, Ayabe botamochi, beloved as an auspicious charm for the "victory" of Hizen warriors, is popular as a festival souvenir. Highly acclaimed as a regional traditional performing art, it received the Prefectural Governor's Award at the "8th Saga Prefecture Traditional Performing Arts Festival" in 2025.
