About this event

The "Shiodome Kannon Festival," a traditional summer event passed down from ancient times in Shiroishi Town, Saga Prefecture, features furyu dedication dances performed at Shiodome Kannon every year on August 25. This festival is held with prayers and gratitude toward Shiodome Kannon, which is believed to have protected the local area from storm surges caused by a typhoon in 1914 (Taisho 3). From the evening, when the daytime heat subsides, into the night, local residents gather, creating a simple and warm atmosphere of quiet prayer. Unlike flashy festivals in urban areas, this is a rare opportunity to experience a form of faith rooted in the local community. As the area around the temple grounds becomes dark at night, having a flashlight or similar item will provide peace of mind. Since parking is limited, arriving early is recommended. As this is a quiet event, please spend your time calmly within the grounds. The atmosphere is best enjoyed from around 17:00 until the sun has completely set.
