Okunchi Festival (Tsumayama Shrine)

At the 'Okunchi' held every year on October 19 at Tsumayama Shrine, presentations of mikoshi (portable shrines) and Yabusame (horseback archery) take place. Tsumayama Shrine, which has a history of over 400 years, is both a shrine and a castle site, and the surrounding area retains ruins from the Kofun period. Two Hizen Torii gates (designated as important cultural properties of the town) line the approach to the shrine. Serving as a base for promoting the revitalization of shrines in depopulated areas, it engages in cultural experiences utilizing the functions of historical buildings and fostering local pride, making it an event you should definitely visit and experience when traveling to Shiroishi Town.
