Okunchi Festival

About this event

This is a festival held at Kawatana Hachiman Shrine featuring traditional Furyu dances and rituals. Once every three years, a procession called Okudari/Okabori (procession down and up) takes place from Hachiman Shrine to Shimomotsu, during which Koshin-furyu (processional dance) is performed. In normal years, Za-furyu (seated/stationary dance) is performed at Hachiman Shrine. This festival is a precious opportunity to deeply feel the local traditional culture and attracts many visitors.
