Amakusa City will host a screening of the movie 'The Man Who Stole the Sun' as the 68th Amakusa Civic Theater. This event aims to provide citizens with an opportunity to appreciate the role and cultural value that Amakusa's movie theaters have played, preserving Amakusa's distinct culture for future generations. 'The Man Who Stole the Sun,' produced by Toho and released in 1979, unfolds a shocking story in which a junior high school teacher played by Kenji Sawada steals plutonium from a nuclear power plant and succeeds in building an atomic bomb. The tense battle between the protagonist waging a solitary fight against the state and the detective pursuing him is depicted as a thrilling suspense masterpiece in Japanese cinematic history. Directed and co-written by Kazuhiko Hasegawa and written/co-scripted by Leonard Schrader, the film features a star-studded cast including Kenji Sawada, Bunta Sugawara, Kimiko Ikegami, Kazuo Kitamura, Yunosuke Ito, Kei Sato, Morio Kazama, Shigeru Kamiyama, Toshiyuki Nishida, and Yutaka Mizutani.
