Tsuruichi Flower Umbrella Float Festival Fireworks Display

This fireworks display in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, marks the grand finale of the two-day festival praying for abundant harvests. Impressive fireworks captivate the audience. On the first day of the festival, 19 flower umbrella floats and one portable shrine (mikoshi) parade through lush green rice fields to the rhythm of traditional festival music. This festival is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Oita Prefecture. After the fireworks show, the 'river crossing' takes place, in which the portable shrine is carried across to the opposite bank of the Yamakuni River. Approximately 3,000 fireworks illuminate the late summer night sky, and festival food stalls line the venue.
