About this event
The annual event coloring the end of summer in Hita, "Disaster Prevention Festa 2026," is being held again this year. It is a day where the whole family can prepare for unexpected emergencies while having fun along the banks of the Mikuma River. On the day, there are rare opportunities to view up close and touch machinery active during disasters, such as amphibious vehicles and Japan Self-Defense Forces vehicles. In addition, booths where you can learn about the mechanisms and roles of upstream dams, as well as corners introducing those who aid us in emergencies, are set up. Experiencing disaster preparedness hands-on rather than just gaining knowledge makes it feel much more familiar. Featured activities include an electric vehicle experience serving as a "mobile emergency power source," a cardboard maze for children to search for disaster prevention heroes, and a flooding simulation that provides a realistic sense of the dangers of flood damage. Furthermore, there are booths introducing how comfortable living spaces can be created with gas even during power outages, as well as a corner where you can enjoy making bamboo water guns while learning about the connection between mountain conservation and disaster prevention (bamboo water gun crafting requires a separate paid fee). While disaster prevention might sound intimidating, this event is designed for the whole family to learn with smiles. Why not enjoy learning how to prepare for emergencies while feeling the pleasant breeze of the Mikuma River?
