About this event

The "Miyazaki Jingu Grand Festival (Jinmu-sama)," Miyazaki's most exciting major autumn event, is a historic festival dating back to the Meiji era. In 2026, it will be held over two days on Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1. In 2026, the procession will take a round-trip route to the "Oyodo Otabisho," with the deities traveling from Miyazaki Jingu to Oyodo Otabisho on Saturday, October 31, and returning from Oyodo Otabisho to Miyazaki Jingu on Sunday, November 1. A particular highlight is the powerful "O-shishi (lion dance)" leading the parade, which dances at intersections; having it bite your head is believed to bring good health and ward off misfortune. In addition, the "Omikoshi (portable shrines)" that dash across intersections at full speed mark a sacred moment that invigorates the deities' power. The parade of the "Okiyo-maru," a huge life-size reproduction of a military ship, brings the mythological world of Emperor Jinmu to life in the modern day. The "Hyuga Bokken Dance," a traditional performing art bravely danced by children, and the procession of the "Miss Shan-Shan Uma" in colorful costumes are also moving sights. On Saturday night, the area around Tachibana Street turns into a pedestrian zone and bustles as the "Jinmu-sama Square" with food stalls and stage events.
