About this event

Held in Kami-Okawauchi, Izumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture, the '11th Okawauchi Hometown Harvest Festival' is an annual festival celebrating the new rice harvest and giving thanks for the autumn bounty. Items for sale include new rice carefully cultivated by local residents, freshly picked vegetables, homemade side dishes, and elaborate handicrafts. Visitors can also savor specialty sweetfish (ayu) and the local specialty Yamatarogani (Japanese mitten crab). The event features a Yamatarogani fishing competition that both children and adults can enjoy, heartwarming performances by students of Okawauchi Junior High School, and an exciting lottery with luxury prizes. With a mini steam locomotive ride corner and an exhibition of works by local elementary and junior high school students, the festival offers something for the entire family. Specialty bamboo skin bento boxes, roasted sweet potatoes, and more will also be sold at the venue, allowing you to fully enjoy the flavors of autumn.
