2026 Inari Shrine Shogi Tournament / Seimei Match

About this event

Held in Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, the "2026 Inari Shrine Shogi Tournament / Seimei-sen" is a shogi tournament bringing together strong amateur players from across the country. Traditionally held in mid-September, the winner of the highest class "S-Class" plays the Seimei Match against the current titleholder at the shrine worship hall for Kagoshima Prefecture's only title, "Seimei-i". On the day of the tournament, the entire local community comes together to welcome participants with events such as a large-board commentary of the Seimei Match and instructional games by professional shogi players from the Japan Shogi Association, a lottery with luxurious prizes, local hot spring bath tickets gifted to participants, and a market. The tournament aims to create an enjoyable all-day experience for everyone from beginners to dan-holders and accompanying persons.
