About this event
'Wadomari Studies' is a Chuo Community Center lecture series designed to systematically learn about the history, culture, nature, and more of Wadomari Town on Okinoerabujima Island, one of the Amami Islands. As part of the 2026 (Reiwa 8) lecture series, a session titled 'About Okinoerabujima Island's Kokuto Shochu' will be held. Featuring Eisuke Tokuda, President of Okinoerabu Shuzo, as the guest lecturer, participants can gain a deep understanding of the history, culture, and production process of Okinoerabujima's brown sugar shochu (kokuto shochu). Based on the town chronicle 'Wadomari Town's Progress' (Wadomari-cho no Ayumi), attendees can learn local wisdom directly from an expert, making it an educational opportunity connected to future town revitalization. Online participation from both within and outside the island is also available, allowing anyone in the world interested in the rich history, culture, and nature of Okinoerabujima to join. Past participants have praised the lectures for enabling them to delve into the island's history and culture through expert talks and deepening their love for the island.
