About this event

"Wadomari Studies" is part of the Central Community Center lecture series to systematically learn about the history, culture, and nature of Wadomari Town on Okinoerabujima Island. In the fiscal year 2026 course, Professor Ryuichi Shinjo from the University of the Ryukyus and Research Institute for Humanity and Nature will unravel how the land forming the island—such as Ryukyu limestone and groundwater—was formed from a grand global perspective under the theme "Geology and Origins of Okinoerabujima." This lecture provides an excellent opportunity to gain a profound understanding of the island's origins and its natural environment. Past attendees have expressed that they were able to delve deeply into the island's history, culture, and nature through expert talks, and that their love for the island deepened. Through this lecture, participants will experience learning that stimulates intellectual curiosity regarding the rich workings of nature on Okinoerabujima and its formation process.
