Takuya Kaneshima x Tamiya Kuriyama New Work "In Place of an Ending"

About this event

Performed as a 5th anniversary project of Naha Cultural Arts Theater NAHArt, "Takuya Kaneshima x Tamiya Kuriyama New Work: In Place of an Ending" is a notable stage production featuring a new play by Okinawan playwright Takuya Kaneshima, directed by one of Japan's leading stage directors, Tamiya Kuriyama. This production relocates Sophocles' Greek tragedies "Antigone" and "Oedipus at Colonus" to post-war Okinawa, depicting a story set in 1958 Okinawa centered on Akiko Owan and her mother Sayoko, where family secrets are gradually uncovered. Bringing together Okinawan actors, this compelling theatrical work also serves as the culmination of the "Tamiya Kuriyama Drama Class" that Kuriyama has conducted in Okinawa since 2004.
