About this event
This is the eve of the Daitogu Annual Festival, the largest event on Kitadaito Island. Organized by the Festival Sponsoring Association, this festival was once a grand event where portable shrines (mikoshi) paraded across the island; however, due to reasons such as a shortage of bearers, the parade route has been shortened while efforts have been made to enrich the content. On the eve of the festival, fireworks and dedicatory performances are held, featuring entertainment by local residents and performing arts troupes from the main island of Okinawa, brightly coloring the opening of the festival. On the following day, a prayer ceremony for a bountiful harvest is conducted, bringing local people together to hold a festival that preserves tradition while adapting to modern times.
